5 Stars Great addition to our boat
I decided to mount a new Clarion CD/tuner below decks, out of harms way, and in turn needed/wanted to use this remote control unit above decks. This was reasonably priced and was shipped quickly and came in perfect condition, brand new. It works great, even senses the I.F. handheld remote control. It can control most of the functions of the main unit, and I have it mounted at the pilots station. It is waterproof and takes up very little space. It can also be daisy chained with additional units, if one had a larger boat, or other reason to have multiple remote control stations. Highly recommended. Note, you need to order the connection cable separately, so be sure to order the correct one!

1 Stars DOES NOT WORK TO POWER MAGELLAN GPS
THIS MINI USB CHARGER THAT IS MARKED FOR A CELL PHONE DOES NOT POWER UP GPS’S. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I HAVE TRIED TO USE MY PHONE CHARGER FOR GPS AND IT DOESN’T WORK. I BOUGHT THIS CHARGER CAUSE IT SAYS FOR GPS BUT DOES NOT POWER AND CHARGE GPS!!! ONLY CELL PHONE.!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS ACTUALLY NO POSTED CORRECTLY SO FILE A CLAIM TO GET YOUR 3.50 BACK LIKE I DID.
2 Stars cable did not work as expected
The cable powers the unit fine but will not charge the internal batteries on the Roadmate 1200. The original cable from Magellan charges still charges the unit fine.
1 Stars Worthless
Worked for one month and then malfunctioned – would not charge the GPS. Not worth it even at this low price, since reliability is important for a GPS.
1 Stars Not 6-feet long; just a lie
Not even stretching it you get a 6-feet cable that you can use for the GPS
1 Stars Useless device
This Made in China charger turned out to be very bad. It would let my GPS run for a minute and then cause it to freeze up and make a weird sound. After trying it twice, I went to a local store, spent some extra money and got another charger that works perfectly fine. Not worth the time or the money to return or exchange. I’m just glad it did not permanently damage my GPS.

1 Stars Warning: Warranty Repacement – Refurbished!!
We purchased the TOM TOM Go “Bluetooth” in Nov 2009, and we had touble with it on a trip from Virginia to Pennsylviana in Aug 2010 (LESS THAN A YEAR LATER) We barely used prior to this trip. The GPS kept going back to the emergency help menu (It had been updated on-line as well). We contacted the technical support, they sent us an e-mail with things for us to try. Everything they recommended FAILED! We called them back the following day, and were told a new one would be mailed out to us. We started asking questions, like “Is it new or refurbished, and about the warranty they would offer. We were told the replacement would be a refurbished one, and the warranty is for 6 mohths. If I wanted a used GPS, I would have purchased a used one. It took only 8 months for this one to go bad, there only offering me 2 months longer. I’m not happy with there product, and will never concider there brand again.

5 Stars Great GPS
I’ve had one of these for over 2 years. My wife wanted a GPS for her car so to make it simple I this to give her the exact same model as myself to make it easier for me to help her with it. They are very simple to use and never needs to be rebooted or have any other problems. I’ve had many passengers in my car who have Garmin’s comment on how much better this TOM TOM is. It also has almost all the same features as the built in GPS options the auto manufactures sell for thousands. It has Bluetooth speaker phone for your cell, MP3 Player and much more. It doesn’t integrate with the car’s computer to tell me if I’ll run out of gas before my destination but it’s almost $2,000 cheaper than what Honda wanted for their in car GPS and the maps are much cheaper to update.
2 Stars Need Better Warranty Coverage
I had purchased a GO730 the unit is great, the problem is the warranty. I have bought this product new, and after 5 mos. had a problem with software. The pages start moving all by itself, this became a problem especially when your driving and not know the area and need the driving map. I contacted TomTom support, which was great trying to fix it from home. After the 3rd attempt they decided it was best just to send it to them. I had felt since this was a software issue that i should have received a new one, since that is how i purchased it, they felt otherwise and refused to send me a new one. They had sent a refurbished unit, since I make my living using the GO 730 I thought they should have respected my opionion. I have a GO630 and have not had a problem with this and its been over a year. The 730 had alot more features that I liked that is why I purchased another GO product. What do you think, please comment!!!!!
5 Stars TOMTOM GO 730
It works great. i am currently using it in Greece and it works with no problems.
5 Stars use of the TomTom
The Tom Tom has been very useful with directing us with our daily estimates, in outlying areas, it’s much easier, than using the road atlas, and is a great time saver.

The key to success in life is knowing where you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re going. Garmin’s full-featured GPSMAP 76 puts all of that information in the palm of your hand, mapping your movements off-road or on–and even afloat. Plus, its extensive features, PC connectivity, and extensive add-on map options make it powerful enough for practically any need.
About the size of a small paperback book and weighing less than 8 ounces, the GPSMAP 76 fits comfortable in the palm of your hand, but is a bit big to carry in a shirt pocket. Using the unit requires almost no setup. Just put in two AA batteries, turn it on, go outside, and wait. In about a minute or so it will determine your location. It’s accurate to about three meters, thanks to the unit’s support of WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System), which augments GPS signals for even greater accuracy.
Knowing your longitude, latitude, and altitude doesn’t mean much without a little context. That’s where GPSMAP 76’s backlit LCD display comes in, displaying your location on detailed maps. The unit comes with a built-in basemap that includes major roads, railroads, rivers, and lakes for the U.S. and Canada, as well as a high-level worldwide map. The unit also has 8 MB memory for storing maps from optional CD-ROMS; available maps include topographical maps, BlueChart marine cartography maps, as well as city maps with detailed information on city streets and points of interest.
The eight buttons, directional rocker thumbpad, and menu-based interface made it simple to access all of the unit’s features and customize the display. For instance, it’s a simple matter to use the buttons to set and name waypoints and build planned routes. Extra features include information on tides, sunrise and sunset, and a trip computer for seeing how far you’ve traveled and your average speed.
To test the GPSMAP 76, we used the included serial cable, connected it to our PC, and loaded it up with topographical maps using the optional United States topographical map disc. We then hit the road and headed for Muir Beach north of San Francisco. It tracked our progress along Highway 1, and once we reached our destination, we found it very simple to use. It showed both the elevation of the hills as well as the paths we could take. The zoom-in and zoom-out function made it simple to plan out and automatically measure the distance of our intended route.
After walking for a while and enjoying the scenery, we used the TracBack mode to guide us back to our car. The unit automatically stores waypoints as you walk along, letting you display the way home clearly on the map. We even used the TracBack capability to guide us on the roads back to the freeway.
The GPSMAP 76 comes in handy almost anywhere, whether you’re hiking, driving, boating, or wandering around a city as a tourist. Its easy-to-use interface makes it immediately useful to novices, and as you learn to exploit its programmability and features, it can become an extremely powerful navigation tool. –Ken Feinstein
Pros:
- Large backlit LCD
- WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) support
- Automatic TracBack shows you the way back to your start location
- PC connectivity with wide variety of uploadable maps available
Cons:
- 8 MB built-in memory can’t be expanded
- Too large to fit comfortably in a shirt pocket
About the size of a small, flat calculator, the Garmin GPSMAP 76 is a 12-parallel-channel, WAAS-enabled global positioning system GPS receiver that will go anywhere. Even with its compact style, this GPS unit boasts an extra-large display for showing more map data and the same power you’ve come to expect from Garmin handhelds–even while operating for up to 16 hours on two AA batteries.
The GPSMAP 76 features 500 waypoints (10 nearest, 10 proximity), 50 reversible routes with up to 50 points each, an automatic track log, and alarms for anchor drag, approach and arrival, off course, proximity waypoint, shallow water, and deep water.
The GPSMAP 76 is also compatible with Garmin’s line of downloadable MapSource CD-ROMs and will store 8 MB of downloaded map detail. Always know just where you’re going with preloaded maps of rivers, lakes, worldwide cities, navaids, and tide data. With a detailed base map database, users also have the ability to look up address and telephone number information for nearby services and points of interest as well as find map detail for cities, highways, and interstates.
Designed with all types of users in mind, this unit will take you from the car to the hiking trail and beach without missing a beat. This quality Garmin product comes with a one-year limited warranty.

5 Stars Proven handheld very reliable
I have used and abused this handheld Map 76 for 5 years. It has been onboard with me from alaska to New Zealand. I often crew on lots of other peoples vessels and I am always glad to have this little GPS with me. I have the Blue Chart America CD downloaded with the California to Mexico portion of detailed maps as that is where I usually cruise and they have great detail. The battery life is exceptional although I usually attach it to a cig lighter outlet whenever I can to save batteries. On my Catalina 42 I have a bicycle mount on my Binnacle and a plug that integrates it with power and data to my auto pilot. The little GPS runs the whole boat from that connection to my Raytheon instruments. I also save all my traks and download them to my computer to save information and routes. It is also useful to study races to see where I have called the wrong tactics on the race course. I also own the updated color version of this unit but in reality I prefer the interface and practicality of this Grayscale version. If I had to choose one I would pick the Map76 without the color. You can usually find the BlueChart CD on line for under $100.00 and that is much more valuable than the Color version that cost about a $100.00 more…….begold
2 Stars Not Mac compatible, hard to create waypoints
I haven’t seen this written explicitly, anywhere, so here goes: This thing isn’t mac compatible. Using a serial to USB converter, and some free software (Garmin software will be no help) you can get to the gps data on windows, but good luck if you’re on a mac.
Also, it is really hard to create new waypoints on the water. This is because if you try and create a waypoint too close to a known feature (such as a highway, intersection, or BODY OF WATER), the GPS will try and use the center of the feature (or something like that). So, to create waypoints over water, your only solution is to manually enter the lat and long (you can’t use the cursor to select a point).
4 Stars Great for my boat
I found this unti to be very easy to use and has all the essential features for saving important fishing spots and navigating my way through fog. I have an 18 foot glaspar cuddycabin and it comes in realy handy going down the river and out into the open sea.
4 Stars GPS for serious landscape surveys
I use this unit for marking reference way points in my managed grazing system. The functionality is great and I can cross reference and download information with the local area NRCS office.
4 Stars Good Delivery
The product was delivered in time and in a very good shape, it is a little bit bigger than I imagined looking through the product images on line, however I think it is good for the purpose. Thank you
