Lubrication system
The engine lubrication system is designed to deliver clean oil at the correct temperature and pressure to every part of the engine. The oil is sucked out the sump into the pump, being the heart of the system, than forced through an oil filter and pressure feeded to the main bearings and to the oil pressure gauge. From the main bearings, the oil passes through feed-holes into drilled passages in the crankshaft and on to the big-end bearings of the connecting rod. The cylinder walls and piston-pin bearings are lubricated by oil fling dispersed by the rotating crankshaft. The excess being scraped off by the lower ring in the piston. A bleed or tributary from the main supply passage feeds each camshaft bearing. Another bleed supplies the timing chain or gears on the camshaft drive. The excess oil then drains back to the sump, where the heat is dispersed to the surrounding air.

3400/3.4 Engines for Sale

We have to assume when someone inquires about 3400 engines for sale, they mean the General Motors 3400 or 3.4L engine. That is the most popular 3400 engine ever made. Obviously our assumption will be wrong on occasion, but that’s OK, we have every 3400 engine made for sale, I may not be familiar with it though, so call GotEngines.com and speak with an engine application professional.

Note: There is another 3400 engine that I was not familiar with. It is a diesel engine made by Hercules and it is made for commercial equipment, not for transportation uses. Things like generations and portable welders and fluid pumps use this type of engine. We carry new Hercules 3400 diesel engines as well I’m told by the management.

The generation 11 engines were called the ”LQ1”, with an ”X code” ID #, or Twin Dual Cam [TDC]. This is the first 3400 or 3.4L engine I’m aware of that GM made. Made from 1991 to 1997 it used MPFI [multiport fuel injection] until 1993, then switched to the more advanced SPFI [sequential port fuel injection] until it was discontinued in 1997. It would only fit front wheel drive cars.

The Generation 111 engines were introduced in 1994 technically speaking, therefore an overlap between the Gen. 11 and Gen. 111 engines existed. But the Generation 111 3400/3.4 engine which can be refereed to as 204 cubic inches were used in rear wheel drive autos and small trucks too.

The Ford 6.7L engine is number 1, a diesel engine and number 2, called the 6.7 Scorpion motor because it has a turbocharger mounted on it, which was designed by Ford. It is of the same family as the 7.3L engines, called Powerstroke diesel engines. If it’s a Powerstroke, it’s a Ford engine, although the Ford 6.7L Powerstroke engines for sale were not as common, we stock one because we get calls for them periodically.

The reality of the matter is that International Engine Company designed and produced the engine. Yup, it’s a real International engine, designed for Ford trucks only. The important thing to know is that there were some 6.7L diesel engines offered in Ford pickups called the 6.7 IDI [indirect fuel injection]. Built between 1988 and 1994, these are not Powerstroke diesel engines, because they have no turbocharger.

The 6.7L Powerstroke engines are equipped with turbochargers and required a more advance fuel delivery system made by Bosch, which was operated by a sophisticated computer setup that is programmed with Ford software. It puts out 390 horsepower and has an astounding 735 lbs. of torque. Torque is the important power figure for diesel engines. As opposed to horsepower for gasoline engines.

One of the beauties of this engine is that it uses a single-sequential turbocharger by Honeywell, which has an industry first dual compressor turbine and combines the expedient response time of a small turbo with the high capacity pressure of a large capacity turbo.

Considered one of the new generations of ”green” diesel engines, the 6.7 Poerstroke uses several new and efficient methods of controlling emissions, such as integrated exhaust gas recirculation, selective catalytic reduction [SCR], and a diesel particulate filter which virtually eliminates soot.
