Chevy Truck Windshield Wiper Motor Not Working?

no comment Posted by admin

Reader Question : Hey Austin, I have a 1987 Chevy pickup and the windshield wipers work sometime, sometimes not. I can bang on the windshield wiper motor with my fist when it stops working and it will start working again. I have replaced the wiper motor twice and still having the problem, is it the switch inside the steering column?

Thanks

Paul

Hey Paul,

I would highly suspect you have a bad intermittent wiper pulse board that attaches to the wiper motor itself. You have to resuse the pulse board when you swap out the motor so you are reusing the bad board each time.  Try wiggling the wires that go inside the wiper motor next time and the wipers should start working. I have been able to remove the pulse board and see a crack in the solder and re-solder that crack and the problem is fixed…if not, buy the pulse board from your Chevy dealer.

Blessings,

Austin Davis

Troubleshooting Problems With Steering and Suspension

Your car’s suspension system is an intricate network of cooperating (usually, anyway) components designed to give you a smooth, even, stable ride. Since the suspension is ground zero when it comes to road abuse, the parts wear out, and even break. If your car doesn’t seem to ride like it used to, you may have a problem down below.

Power steering pump failure

Power steering pump
And steering car suddenly stopped working? If so, could it be that the power steering pump has failed. The same unit can be killed, or it may be a loss of steering fluid through a tube defect that is causing the problem. Regardless, the best thing is usually not a problem now or will soon be hard to control a car that seems to work against you, not with you. Before pump failure becomes obvious, you usually hear buzzing or hissing from under the hood.

leather steering wheel
I wrote a post some time ago on how to repair a worn leather steering wheel and steering had a lot of traffic to it, but to be honest with you, that's what I call a quick solution, not a good permanent solution as what a person really need in this area.

Winter maintenance checklist auto

Winter is upon us and winter driving comes with it. Although security is an important consideration throughout the year, there is probably maintenance of automotive and security controls that are specific to cold air and winter driving, which is a good idea to check out until we're knee in the season.

Liquid Replacement in the Hydraulic amplifier of a wheel

Hydraulic amplifier of a wheel
Replacement a liquid the Hydraulic amplifier of a wheel
We are exhausted on a hole. We remove diffuser. We get into a hole. We remove protective cap from a tension roller. We insert internal hexahedron (if memory doesn’t change 8), we turn to the right and we remove a belt from a pump pulley (completely to remove a belt of need isn’t present).
