Did you know the Dodge Stealth and Mitsubishi GTO, renamed the Mitsubishi 3000GT are the same cars with different name plates. The base models from 1991 to 1996 were powered by a 3.0 liter DOHC [double overhead camshaft] V6 engine with 10:1 compression, having 222 horsepower. With 24 valves and fuel injection it was more than adequate as a base engine.

One step up from the base model was the SL model Stealth. Considered the luxury version of the Stealth, it’s differences were not always apparent to the eyes. Although Dodge decided to stick with the same 3.0 liter engine.

The VR4-T/T Turbo was the ”bad boy” of the family. Powered by a well built 3.0 L DOHC 24-valve, twin-turbocharged, twin-intercooled V6, the VR4 produced either 300 BHP at 6000 RPM or 320 BHP at 6000 RPM depending on the turbo boost settings. Basically the whole car was set up for this monster motor. Larger brakes, stiffer suspension and bigger tires were a few of its’ ultra performance parts.

The Spyder was a rare edition of the VR4. They did not sell well because of the steep price and were discontinued prematurely.

The Mitsubishi engine family coded; 6G7 or the Cyclone V6 engines are a series of V6 piston engines from Mitsubishi Motors. Five displacement sizes have been produced with both SOHC [single overhead camshafts] and DOHC [double overhead camshaft} layouts. [MIVEC] Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control variable valve timing has also been implemented in some versions, and the 2.5 and 3.0 L versions were also available with gasoline direct injection. Modern versions feature a one-piece cast crankshaft and cast aluminum intake manifold.
